Grasa explores the complexities of identity, physical insecurities, and cultural stereotypes. It exists between the grotesque and the beautiful — a grease that leaves a strange taste in our mouths.
Synopsis: Lina, a young first-generation Mexican-American, arrives in Mexico City with the goal of exploring her ancestral roots. Despite initial setbacks, she commits to immersing herself in the local culture in the most “authentic” way possible.
A chance encounter with a greasy taco at a taqueria leads her to being kidnapped and drawn into an underground cult of ‘grasa,’ of grease. A feminine monster awaits beneath the earth, one that forces Lina to confront her deepest fears and insecurities, while awakening a profound transformation of self-identity and heritage.
Core Essence:Grasa explores the complexities of identity, physical insecurities, and cultural stereotypes. It exists between the grotesque and the beautiful — a grease that leaves a strange taste in our mouths.
La Fiesta de la Grasa: A surreal food-art party experience where guests indulge in grease—not just to eat, but to wear. Designed in collaboration with food artists like Laila Gohar and Raquel Torres Cerdán, this ritualistic event transforms butter, lard, and oil into tools of indulgence, mess, and self-reckoning. A celebration of excess and transformation, it forces guests to embrace discomfort, beauty, and surrender.
The Taquería Circuit A Tocaya-published book in collaboration with Savvy Studio that compiles the hidden stories, histories, myths, and secrets of Mexico City’s taquerías—gathered from taqueros, locals, and generations of street food culture.
Part oral history, part surreal folklore, the book reveals the sacred, profane, and unexpected truths behind each taco stand, blurring the line between authenticity, legend, and urban ritual.
