Synopsis:Three young siblings leave their small pueblo for the first time after a total electrical blackout, only to discover a strange truth—their town exists purely because of a bureaucratic loophole between highway toll booths. As they journey beyond, they find other pueblos entre dos casetas, each an isolated micro-society shaped by those who got stuck there—locals, migrants, and exiles alike. These communities form unexpected connections between Mexico, America, and Palestine—diasporic and displaced tourists. Their survival strategies and communities echo across borders, from roadside economies to resistance, collectivist networks.
As they navigate these accidental towns, the siblings uncover hidden alliances, clash with eccentric local leaders, and realize their home is part of a much larger story of displacement and reinvention. Determined to forge new connections beyond the highway’s grasp, they must decide whether to escape—or reshape the world between the toll booths.
Core Essence:Entre Dos Casetas is about communities born from bureaucracy and stuckness—people who, unable to leave, build entirely new ways of living. Through the eyes of three siblings, the story explores isolation, resilience, and the absurdity of makeshift societies, questioning what it means to belong and whether true escape is even possible.
Frequencies Entre Casetas: A music project that explores the sonic landscapes of highway towns. We commission artists to create soundtracks inspired by these in-between spaces—blending regional folk, ambient road sounds, and electronic experimentation.
The project includes live performances at highway rest stops and a pirate radio network that broadcasts these compositions to travelers caught in transit, mirroring the way the film’s towns exist outside traditional systems.
Intelligent Infrastructure: A partnership with urban planners, re/presentare, and AI researchers will manifest in real life. We will analyze how highways create liminal spaces, isolation, and alternative economies (akin to Forensic Architecture but applied). Using AI-driven mapping, we’ll identify overlooked communities formed around highways and propose reintegration through smart mobility, economic support, and sustainable transit—turning the film’s premise into real-world impact. This project will also evolve into an interactive installation within these communities, simulating AI developments.
